A Little Nice Goes a Long Way

Get to know BDI Senior Production Manager, Rosemary Weik

From Katrina Williams, Marketing Manager

Nestled on the south bank of the Missouri River, in the city of Independence, sits the house of Rosemary Weik. The clucks of chickens and the fragrance of roses seep in the window, filling the room of her home office.

Her desk is neatly lined with color-coded sticky notes and precisely organized files of paperwork. With everything in its place, Rosemary is ready to start her day.

As BDI’s Sr. Production Manager, Rosemary coordinates BDI’s purchasing systems and direct mail campaigns. This includes scanning mail to clients, approving correct quantities, ensuring that all materials deploy on time, and more.

“Basically, I do all the final approvals, checking our client’s mail campaigns before they leave the printer and head toward the post office. But my favorite thing about BDI is that we get to help people,” she said. “I have always believed that we can get a lot farther in life (and at work) if we strive to be nicer to one another.”

Having been in production for over 15 years, Rosemary’s warm spirit is complemented with a passion for structured, routined work. At BDI, she is required to halt the mail, look at it, approve it, and put it back on track without creating any bumps or delays. This is a job that could only be done by a timely, process-driven person who is dedicated to maintaining order.

“I just love the system,” she said. “I like steps, I like to follow them, and I like to check them off. It’s such a good feeling to make sure a job is done correctly, and file it away.”

This logical way of thinking applies to Rosemary’s life outside of work as well. “Our home is very organized,” she said. “Even in a house with two teenagers, my nephew, two dogs and a cat, everything is in its place.”

Besides cleaning and organizing, Rosemary loves to spend time reading, planting vegetables in her garden, taking care of her 16 chickens, volunteering at church, and playing with her two dogs – Caesar and Cash. She even participates in a weekly sand volleyball league with friends from high school. “The volleyball league is very amateur” she chuckled. “But I love spending time with friends.”

Despite her many hobbies, Rosemary strives to make her family a top priority. In fact, one of her favorite parts of the day is when her family sits down to eat dinner together. “At dinner, we all go around the table and say a ‘good’ and a ‘bad’ about the day. It started when my kids were little because they would never tell me how school went!” she laughed. “Well, we still do it today, and I love it.”

For Rosemary, each day ends by putting everything back in its place, watering her roses, and laughing with her family as they watch the sun go down behind the chicken coop.

“Each day, I try my best to keep God first, and treat people well,” she said. “You never know what someone else is going through, so I just always try to be nice.”
