If you’ve been in fundraising for a while, you’ve likely heard the term “cycle of giving.” This references the various phases of donor engagement as they provide their material, volunteer, prayer and financial support. So now, the challenge becomes… how to make the cycle of giving work for you!
First, you need a strategic plan to ensure a solid foundation of support for your organization. This calls for a dynamic and strategic effort from a team of dedicated professionals in your development department. It should be well-coordinated, diligently tracked and adjusted as needed.
The primary responsibility of your development department is to obtain the financial resources that enable your organization to reach your goals. This is attained by leading donors – individuals, churches, businesses and foundations – through the cycle of giving.
No matter where the donor enters the cycle, the goal is to move him or her around the circle to enhance their experience with your organization and solidify your relationship with them.
When a focused, consistent message is integrated into all your communications within your strategic plan, you strengthen your organization’s credibility and reputation. And you will more effectively connect with your audience as you move them through the cycle of giving!
