⚠️ Latest updates on the USPS financial situation

Earlier this month, BDI attended the National Postal Forum, where USPS leadership shared more about the financial and operational pressures facing the Postal Service, and what they are working to do next.

For nonprofits, these updates are important because they could affect the cost, delivery and timing of direct mail campaigns.

Here’s what we found out:

📬 USPS is facing serious financial pressure.
Leadership shared that USPS had been projected to run out of cash as early as October 2026 before recent financial adjustments provided temporary relief.

📬 Postage increases are expected to continue, but they are not the full solution.
USPS leadership made it clear that rate increases alone cannot solve the organization’s long-term financial challenges.

📬 Service improvement is a major priority.
USPS is focused on improving speed, reliability, consistency and visibility across its network.

📬 Technology and AI are part of the modernization plan.
USPS is looking at ways to improve responsiveness, customer experience and operational efficiency.

📬 Congressional support may still be needed.
Because USPS is required to serve every ZIP code and maintain essential national infrastructure, long-term sustainability may require broader Congressional support.

Getting a closer look at the work behind the mission!

From BDI, Jasmine Boyle (Account Executive) and Amanda Robledo (Account Director & Campaign Strategy Lead) recently spent time at Long Beach Rescue Mission, connecting with CEO Jeff Levine and the team.

They shared a glimpse of the continued buildout of their women's shelter, Lydia House, and of their newly opened men's shelter, Timothy House. These are safe and restorative housing spaces designed to serve women, children and young men experiencing homelessness, offering stability, care and a path forward.

We are grateful for the opportunity to support their work and see the progress firsthand.
