The Challenge
Wheeler Mission knew that many loyal mid-level supporters were ready to do more but needed the right message to unlock larger gifts – including IRA contributions.
The Solution
BDI partnered with Wheeler Mission to shift midlevel donors from routine giving to transformational support. An IRA-focused postcard educated donors about tax-smart ways to give. A tailored year-end appeal spotlighted a program need beyond daily meals. This layered approach made it easy for donors to picture their impact and respond generously.

The Results
Overall, IRA giving grew significantly with total revenue more than doubling year over year. One donor, previously giving modest gifts, contributed $55,000 from her IRA after receiving both mailings – an example of how this strategy inspired larger gifts.
